From Perfectionism to Peace: A Holistic Mental Health Journey

Let’s be real – I used to be that girl who had a self-improvement spreadsheet. Yes, you read that right. I tracked everything from my spiritual morning routine to my manifestation practice, giving myself little check marks and gold stars like I was back in elementary school.

I learned early on that I needed to constantly work on being “better.” There was always another self-healing practice to master, another mindfulness habit to form, another aspect of myself that needed fixing.

But here’s the plot twist: all that self-improvement was actually blocking my natural anxiety relief journey.

I remember the moment it hit me. I was sitting on my yoga mat (because of course I was), checking off my morning routine items on my phone, when I realized I felt absolutely exhausted. Not just physically tired, but soul-tired. I was carrying the heavy weight of never being enough, always needing to be more.

Here’s what no one tells you about holistic mental health: sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stop trying to fix yourself.

That doesn’t mean giving up on spiritual growth or settling for less than you deserve. Instead, it means approaching your healing journey from a place of self-compassion rather than self-criticism. It means understanding that you’re not broken, and therefore, you don’t need fixing.

These days, my approach to emotional healing looks different. Instead of forcing myself into rigid routines and beating myself up when I fall short, I practice gentle awareness. I notice my patterns without judgment. I get curious about my behaviors rather than critical. I try to actually have fun with it.

The irony? I’ve grown more in the past year of practicing conscious living than I did in all those years of aggressive self-improvement combined.

If you’re feeling exhausted from constantly trying to find alternative mental health treatments, here’s your permission slip to pause. Take a breath. Ask yourself: What if I’m already whole? What if mindful living could feel more like unfolding than forcing?

Remember, you’re not a project to be completed. You’re a human being on a spiritual healing journey. And that’s more than enough. ✨
